Budget 2021 focuses on protecting the health and safety of British Columbians, while providing the supports people and businesses need.
Building BC and creating 85,000 new jobs
We’re investing more than ever to build and upgrade hospitals, schools, highway and transit projects – and create 85,000 jobs.
Keeping people connected all over BC
We’re providing better high-speed internet and cell coverage to help connect more people in rural and remote communities, including Indigenous communities – and help them take advantage of services and opportunities.
Affordable child care for more families
We’re more than doubling the number of $10-a-day child care spaces, giving thousands more BC families access to low-cost child care, and raising wages for early childhood educators.
Homes for BC
We’re creating even more housing options for families, seniors, women and children leaving violence, students and Indigenous peoples, and delivering nearly 9,000 new homes for middle-income households and families.
Bigger parks, more campsites
We’re adding 100 new camping sites per year, expanding and improving trails and backcountry infrastructure, and adding new land to create bigger parks.
Free transit for kids
When school starts in the fall, children 12 and under will be able to ride public transportation for free. Families could save up to $672 a year for each child.
Keeping people safe from COVID-19
We’re dedicating another $900 million to support our response to the COVID-19 pandemic – to keep protecting people and deliver the largest vaccine rollout in BC history.
Opportunities for young people
We’re investing millions to support job and training opportunities for young people and funding to support postsecondary education.
Mental health services
We’re making the largest investment in mental health services in BC history, delivering more mental-health supports in schools and expanding our response to the addictions crisis.
Reconciliation
We’re working in partnership with Indigenous peoples to take steps towards meaningful reconciliation and address systemic racism in health care. We’re also creating culturally relevant child care spaces for Indigenous families, and investing in skills training for Indigenous communities.
Better health care
We’re building on our work to protect people’s health by strengthening BC’s health care system – opening new Urgent and Primary Care Centres, enhancing our surgical strategy, and hiring thousands more health care workers.
Supporting BC businesses
We’re helping businesses adapt and grow by building on the StrongerBC Economic Recovery Plan with funding for small and medium-sized businesses, tax incentives for hiring, funding to help businesses sell online, PST exemptions on equipment and launching InBC – a new fund to help businesses scale up.
“Getting back on track after COVID-19 will take all of us working together. It will take us looking out for each other, and giving a hand up to people who have been knocked down by the pandemic. Budget 2021 is about helping people now, and creating the conditions for a strong economic recovery.”
